Historic Oddity Headline: January 27, 1887 - Frightened By A Skeleton Hand
Jamestown Weekly Alert

“Frightened by a Skeleton Hand.”
A very mysterious proceeding has disturbed an Atlanta man, whose name is withheld for good and sufficient reasons. The man lives in the suburbs of the city and has a beautiful place, surrounded by a good deal of shrubbery. Several nights ago, while the moon was shining, one of the windows of the man’s sitting-room was raised to admit fresh air. The man chanced to be looking toward the window and saw rising outside above the sill a skeleton hand. It remained there barely a second, then descended quickly. The man was so paralyzed by the unexpected sight that he could scarcely move. When he regained self-control and went to the window no one could be seen and no sound came to his ears. Two or three nights afterward the skeleton hand silently appeared at the window again. At the same time the man’s yard dog set up barking, rushed around the house and dashed furiously through the shrubbery. The man rushed into the yard and found the dog growling angrily and shaking something, which, when taken from him, proved to be the skeleton hand and the lower bones of an arm. That is all I know about it. Speculate to suit yourself.
