“A Strange Animal.”

The entire neighborhood west of Sutton is “worked up” over the nightly appearance of a strange and mysterious animal. Old fox hunters declare it has them “bested” so far, but there is a grin of determination to capture the midnight prowler alive, if possible. “Bunk” Dillard says he means to “get him” if it costs a crop.

The animal has been seen by a number of persons, and its description would fit anything from a common dog to the great king of beasts. Its track is much larger than that of a wolf; and its fleetness of foot is astonishing, according to hunters who have been after him now for nearly a month.

This strange animal will answer a horn, it is said, in a tone like the cry of a wolf, then convert itself into a roar similar to a lion. It feasts on rabbits and has been known to make a meal or so of small yearlings.

Traps of all kinds are being set for his capture, and not until he is safely “tied up,” will the peoples curiosity be satisfied or their personal safety assured.
