It is a fact that within British Columbia, there are well over 20,000+ lakes. Those lakes combined stretch over 750,000 kilometers (466,000+ miles), and within more than half of those lakes, someone at one point has reported seeing something strange.

Cryptid Profile: Giant Bird of Webb Lake

August 19, 2018  /  adam benedict

giant bird.jpg

Curious, he stopped and stared at the strange avian standing before him nearly 50 yards away. It was at this point John began to realize that at nearly 150ft away, a normal bird should not appear this big, in fact, he should barely be able to see more than the head and neck. As it turns out, he wasn’t looking at a normal bird.

Cryptid Profile: The Cumberland Beast (AKA: Wisconsin’s Bigfoot)

August 19, 2018  /  adam benedict

cumberland.jpg

Just listen to this fact; Wisconsin has a total land area of 34.7 million acres, and 16 million of those total acres are covered in forest (mostly the northern half of the state). That means 46 percent of the state is a potential home for a Sasquatch to live, and it appears that it already does, as eyewitness reports of the beast trickle out of the dairy state as frequently as reports of badger land Lake Monsters.

But what happens when a witness describes something that breaks free from the standard description of a lake monster and puts it into a category all it’s own? Well when that happens, you get a creature known as Skin Fin.

Cryptid Profile: The Pink-Headed Duck

August 19, 2018  /  adam benedict

pinkhead.jpg

The Pink-Headed Duck, or Rhodonessa caryophyllacea, is a duck that once called the range of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar home (and quite possibly still does). The reason that many believe the Pink-Headed duck is extinct though, is that nobody has gotten verifiable proof that they still exist since June 1935 when what was thought to be the last wild specimen was unknowingly shot in India by C.M. Inglis, although reported (unverifiable) sightings carried well into the early 1960’s.

Cryptid Profile: The Dewey Lake Monster

August 19, 2018  /  adam benedict

dewey.jpg

But in the summer of 1964, the locals and vacationers had a new visitor at their lake. One that was believed to stand nearly 10ft tall, weigh over 400lbs, and was said to have attacked some unfortunate witnesses during an unfortunate night out while in the wrong place at the wrong time. This monstrous visitor to the lake would forever change the memories of the summer of ’64, and would go one to be historically known as the Dewey Lake Monster.

Cryptid Profile: The Beast of Eau Claire

August 18, 2018  /  adam benedict

eau clair.jpg

On March 19th, 1908, Wisconsin newspaper The La Crosse Tribune ran a very short article with the headline “Beast Causes Terror”. With only a few lines, the story told of how a wild beast (described as a panther) was terrorizing the residents of Eau Claire, attacking and eating their livestock, and stalking the child of a local farmer.

Folkore Profile: The Man Faced Pigs of Brussels

*Note: While I don’t consider these creatures to be true flesh and blood cryptids, I do feel they are worthy enough of being shared on this site. I feel these are more or less the result of a curse rather than nature at work.
