Cryptid  Profile: Pinky (AKA: The St. Johns River Monster)

On May 10th, 1975 at 10am, near Jacksonville Florida, a boat carrying five people down the St. Johns River came across an unknown creature. The passengers of the boat stated that what they saw had been much like a dragon with a long neck, it raised its head out of the water quickly and was gone just as fast.

Cryptid Profile: The Namibian Monster

The Namibian Monster (aka The dog-headed pig monster) is described as having a head that resembles that of a dog, but with the body of a large pig. The animal is whitish gray in color and has a hairless back and shoulders. The creatures body is thick and its shoulders are broad, much like that of a warthog or wild boar.

Cryptid Profile: Ennedi Tiger

The citizens and tribes of Chad and the Central African Republic have long reported sightings of a large cat with gigantic fangs like walrus tusks. They have reported two different types of these creatures, one that inhabits the mountains and one that inhabits the areas around water (wetlands).

Cryptid Profile: Kongamato

In the 1923 book ‘In Witchbound Africa’, author Frank Melland described a creature known as the Kongamato (which means the “breaker of boats”). A dangerous birdlike reptile that is not afraid to attack larger animals, boats, or people. It is known by the natives within Zambia, Angola, and the Congo.

Cryptid Profile: Girt Dog

In 1810, farmers and townsfolk in Cumberland, England were dealing with a supposed beast that was roaming the countryside and killing their sheep. Over the course of six months, between 300 and 400 sheep were slaughtered. The unlucky sheep were drained of all their blood due to multiple teeth marks around the neck and abdominal region.

Cryptid Profile: Cole Hollow Road Monster (Cohomo)

In early May of 1972, Randy Emmert (18yrs old) and some friends reported seeing a very large, white haired, creature in the vicinity of Cole Hollow Road in Pekin, Illinois. They stated that the creature made loud almost screeching like sounds and that they believed it was living underneath an abandoned house.

Cryptid Profile: Flashlight Frog

In June of 1997, naturalist and cryptozoologist, Jonathan Downes was visiting an animal fair at Newton Abbot in Devon, England. While there, he came across a cage of exotic tree frogs from Cameroon, West Africa. The exotic frog seller noted that the frogs were able to make their nose glow in darkness in order to attract prey.

Cryptid Profile: J'ba Fofi

The J'ba Fofi (pronounced ch-bah foo fee and translates to “giant spider”) is a cryptid that is said to make its home in the Congo. The spider first gained recognition in 1938 with a sighting made by married couple Reginald and Margurite Lloyd.

Cryptid Profile: Washington's Eagle

In February 1814 on a trip up the Mississippi River, famous American naturalist and artist, John James Audubon (namesake of the Audubon Society) laid eyes upon a bird that he had never seen before. This was not unusual for Audubon for he would identify 25 new species of birds during his lifetime, but what made this bird unique is that it has only ever been veritably seen four times.

Cryptid Profile: Rhinoceros Dolphin

In 1820, off the coast of the Sandwich Islands and New South Wales, Jean Rene’ Constant Quoy (zoologist and anatomist) and Joseph Paul Gaimard (naturalist) spotted what appeared to be a never before seen species of dolphin. Quoy and Gaimard chose to name this new aquatic mammal the “Rhinoceros Dolphin”, its scientific name being Delphinus rhinoceros. In total, 9 Rhinoceros Dolphins were seen swimming together in a pod in the Atlantic Ocean.
