Cryptid Profile: Congo Fanged Toad

The officer was walking alongside a small pool of water in the late evening, an overly large toad leaped from the water, bit the man on his leg, and refused to let go. Yes, you read that sentence right, the mystery toad attacked the man and bit into his leg. As the man began to obviously panic, the toad continued to bite harder. In an attempt to remove the creature from his leg, the officer grabbed the club that he carried on him at all times and started to beat the toad with it.

Cryptid Profile: The Yokyn

During the 1960’s and 1970’s in Australia, a strange type of dog-like creature that had never been seen before, was being seen by multiple people from all over. Witnesses claimed that the “dog” appeared to be half the size of a dingo, had multi-colored fur (patches of brown, red, gray, and white) like that of an African Wild Dog, a thick muscular body, and claws that appeared to be much too big for its paws.

Cryptid Profile: Algerian Hairy Viper

In 1852, locals from a village near Draria, Algeria, came across a creature that had never been seen before. While making their way through the surrounding forest, a group of villagers came upon a large tree in a somewhat open area. As they continued their trek forward, one of the villagers took notice of what appeared to be hair growing around the diameter of the tree trunk. Perplexed, the witnesses moved closer to the tree to better observe what they truly believed was hair.

Cryptid Profile: Giant Jellyfish

In 1953, a deep-sea diver from Australia witnessed something that absolutely shocked and terrified him. While deep below the surface, the diver noticed a large dark mass off in the distance that appeared to be floating within the current of the ocean. Stunned at what he was seeing, the diver continued to watch the dark mass get closer.

Cryptid Profile: Camels of the American Southwest

When the men eventually arrived back at the farm, the horrified women recounted the story of what had happened and told their husbands the last known location of their missing sister. The men rode off towards the spring where they discovered the lifeless body of the young woman. Her bones had been broken and her body was pressed into the dirt as if she had been trampled to death. Patches of reddish brown fur were present around the body.

The Roa-Roa is said to be a large flightless bird that inhabits the forests of New Zealand. Many people who believe the Roa-Roa to exist think that it may be a surviving Moa (large flightless birds that lived in New Zealand and were hunted to extinction in the 1500’s. The largest of these birds reached a height of 12ft and weighed almost 510lbs).

Cryptid Profile: Gambo (AKA: The Sea Monster of West Africa or The Beast of Bungalow Beach)

On June 12th, 1983, 15-year-old Owen Burnham came across a very odd looking carcass that had washed up on the shore of Bungalow Beach in Gambia, West Africa. Having always been fascinated with nature and animals, Owen took it upon himself to document his discovery. Owen made quick work of taking measurements and sketching what he was seeing in his notebook. Satisfied with his impromptu exam of the large, dead animal, Owen packed up his stuff and continued on his way down the beach.

Cryptid Profile: Canadian Alligator (AKA: Pitt Lake Lizard)

On October 10th, 1900, on the shore of Kootenay Lake, George Goudereau watched from a distance as a 12ft creature that roughly resembled an alligator crawled out of Crawford Bay and made its way towards a pile of rotten compost that had been collecting on land. George starred as the unknown creature used both its small, clawed hands and its snout to search for food within the pile. Eventually the creature finished its search and made its way back to the water.

Cryptid Profile: Saytoechin (AKA: Beaver-Eater)

In the Yukon Territory of Canada, members of the Canadian First Nations sometimes spoke of an unknown creature while retelling stories that had been passed down from generation to generation. In the Tutchone language, the creature is known as the Saytoechin, to everyone else, the creature is known as the Beaver-Eater.

Cryptid Profile: USS Stein Monster

In 1978, the USS Stein (a United States Navy Knox-class destroyer escort) was running special operations in the Pacific Ocean when it encountered something large and unseen in the water. Completely out of nowhere, the ship began to experience technical issues and eventual failure of its SONAR system (a technique that uses sound propagation to navigate and detect objects under the surface of the water), a problem which required the ship to return to port in San Diego, California.
