User Submitted Cryptid Sighting: Devil Monkey

Name: Rocky V.

Age: 63

Number of witnesses: 1

Location of sighting: Near Mammoth Cave National Park, Hwy 728, Edmonson County Kentucky

Date of sighting: Aug 1, 2018

What you believe the creature was: Man sized, white furry creature standing on side of road at night

Message: "I was coming home from the golf course I work at, it was just after dark on Hwy 728/Nolin Dam Rd, just after Brier Creek Rd, when I saw something white on the left side of the road. I thought to myself it was a goat, then thought maybe it was a dog, but then I got closer and seen it was on its hind legs. It was tall, maybe 6 to 6 1/2 ft tall and solid white. It looked like it was well groomed, but I think it was in a sort of fear reflex cause it never moved and its face was stuck in a snarl or grimace. I did notice its large canines, and its tail was showing above its head and bent like a monkeys. It had beautiful fur, a pinkish tan face, but I didn't notice the eyes. It had muscular legs (not like a mans), and a lean torso. I didn't notice the ears. As I was on my way home, I didn't think to stop, plus it was big and menacing. I didn't think about it again until the next day, and at first I thought I could have been a dog, but then I googled what I had seen and saw a rough picture drawn next to the Pine Barrens logo. What I saw that night was a jolt to the senses and left me confused and not sure of what I had exactly seen! Has anyone else seen this recently? Hope this helps you.... Rocky!"

Thank you Rocky for reaching out to us with your sighting! It is definitely one that I believe you will never forget! As for what you saw, only one creature came to mind the entire time I was reading what you sent, and that creature is a Devil Monkey.

Your sighting has all the classic signs of a Devil Monkey encounter; muscular build, white hair (although usually reported just around the areas of the stomach and neck), large teeth, noticeable tail, and for a brief moment it was thought to possibly be a large dog. Not to mention, Devil Monkey sightings have been reported in Kentucky from as far back as the 1930's.

While typically grouped into the same category as most Sasquatch sightings, the Devil Monkey differs in that they are generally reported as being quite aggressive and having no fear of humans. They are believed to be quite vocal and are thought to be responsible for many unknown screams, barks, and cries heard throughout the Appalachian Mountains region. They also appear much more baboon/monkey-like in profile than a Bigfoot, and have also been reported as walking on all fours from time to time.

In 1959, a Devil Monkey was reported to have attacked a family driving down a rural road in Virginia. Then a few days later, the creature was said to have tried to attack two women driving in a convertible along the same road. Later in the 1970's, a Devil Monkey was thought to be responsible for the slaughter of quite a few cattle in Albany, Kentucky (Cryptozoologist Loren Colemen actually investigated this incident).

While I am unaware of any recent 2018 sightings, I do know that sightings have been reported well into the 2010's. So while you are the only one who has sent us a Devil Monkey sighting, I guarantee you are far from the only one who has seen a creature like this in your area.

Thank you again for the sighting Rocky, and take caution next time you are in that area. You never know if the Devil Monkey may be out there just waiting for someone to slow down so it can get in a good swipe.
