The citizens and tribes of Chad and the Central African Republic have long reported sightings of a large cat with gigantic fangs like walrus tusks. They have reported two different types of these creatures, one that inhabits the mountains and one that inhabits the areas around water (wetlands). The mountain creature is known as the Hadjel, Gassingram, or Vossok. The water creature is known as the Mourou N'gou, Mamaimé, or Dilal. They are both referred to as the Ennedi Tiger, or the African Sabertooth.

The Ennedi Tiger gets its name from the Ennedi Plateau, which is located in Sub-Saharan Africa, east of Chad. Both types are reported as being larger than a lion, with extremely large front fangs that extend out the mouth down past the lower jaw. But the two types of creatures do have some differences which set them apart as possibly being two sub-species of surviving sabertooth tigers.

The Mountain type is described as being a large tiger that lacks a tail. The fur is often sandy red or brown with white stripes and it has overly hairy legs and feet. The tigers jaws are reported as being strong enough to carry away a full grown antelope. It has well developed front legs that are often seen as being slightly larger than the back. It is reported as being nocturnal and that it makes its home within caves in the mountain range.

The Water type is described as being larger than the Mountain type, often around 10 to 11ft long. It’s fur is mostly seen as being a darker shade of red or brown, and it has white markings (blotches) throughout. Other sightings have also described the creatures as being completely brown, or with a fur pattern not unlike a leopard. Unlike its mountainous other half, the Water type is noted as having a long tail and also as being extremely fierce and temperamental.

Local peoples of Chad have reported finding hippo corpses within the area that have appeared to have died due to punctures in the neck from overly large front fang-like teeth. The large bite radius also appears to be from an unknown animal within the region. Cryptozoologists who have explored Chad have documented interactions with the Youlous Tribe regarding the Ennedi Tiger. When tribe members were shown modern books that contained pictures of extinct sabertooth cats, the tribe instantly pointed to these cats as being the exact same as the Ennedi Tiger. When shown pictures of modern lions, tigers, panthers, and leopards, the tribe still pointed to the extinct sabertooth tiger.
